This course has been designed as an extension of physiology, in an effort to provide students with a foundational scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding of pathology processes. The course fundamentally focuses on general mechanisms of disease that are typically applicable to multiple body regions and/or organ system. In addition to those general mechanisms, focus is also afforded to the pathogenesis of systemic conditions, again, due to their influence on the patient as a whole. Additionally, principles of electrophysics are applied to the human body in health and disease are presented. The application of the of electrical stimulation including biphasic pulsed current, monophasic pulsed current, uninterrupted direct current, interferential electrical stimulation, Russian stimulation, microstimulation (MENS), transcutaneous nerve stimulation (TENS) neuromuscular stimulation (NMES), functional electrical stimulation (FES) and iontophoresis is presented.

This course studies a field of physical therapy that uses light to treat diseases based on medical researches from a photomedical point of view. Understand the principles and clinical applications of ultraviolet, infrared, and laser commonly used in phototherapy. Have the ability to know and apply indications and contraindications for each treatment.Also, this course will present the therapeutic values of hydrotherapy-related modalities. These applications will include cold and hot packs, paraffin-wax, pools, contrast baths among others. Issues concerning clarification of indications, contraindications, precautions and physiological effects of various forms of applications will be addressed.
